Guwahati: The Pedal to Plant 2025 cycling expedition, which carries the message ‘Change before the Climate Change’, has completed its journey through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The initiative combines long-distance cycling with plantation activities to promote fitness, environmental responsibility and national unity.
The expedition is led by para-cyclist, mountaineer and Everester Nisha Kumari and is supported by the Fit India Movement. It began on 31 October from Pangsau Pass in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, coinciding with National Unity Day. The flag-off was conducted by MLA Laisam Simai and Brigadier Sarabjeet Singh of HQ 25 Sector, Assam Rifles.

The route from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat has been planned as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, reflecting his vision of a strong and united India. Over the course of the Northeast leg, the team held interactions with students, athletes and community members at schools, colleges and Khelo India Centres. These sessions focused on health, fitness and the importance of environmental conservation, and were followed by plantation drives at every stop.
Nisha Kumari said the aim of the expedition is to motivate people to take action to protect the environment and adopt healthier lifestyles. “Pedal to Plant is a mission to inspire every citizen to work towards a fitter, healthier and greener India, and to take action now—before the climate acts against us,” she said.
The Sports Authority of India’s Regional Centre in Guwahati provided logistical and administrative support during the team’s journey through the Northeast and said it was proud to be associated with an effort that brings together fitness, climate awareness and national integration.
