A new Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Tetelia station yard, constructed by Northeast Frontier Railway, has been opened for public use. This ROB (No. 59A), built at a cost of Rs. 72 crores, aims to enhance the transportation network and alleviate traffic congestion.
Previously, the road at Level Crossing Gate No. ST-22, which runs through the Tetelia station yard, was frequently congested due to shunting operations, train movements in both directions or the stabling of trains on the Tetelia–Byrnihat section and the Star Cement siding line. The Level Crossing Gate ST-22, situated on the state PWD road connecting Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, had a high traffic volume with a TVU of 88,818. This congestion necessitated the construction of the new ROB to replace the level crossing.
The newly constructed ROB spans a total length of 442.58 metres and features a Bow String Arch Steel Girder of 62 metres in length, with a height of 16.754 metres and a weight of 514 metric tonnes. It includes a two-lane road of 7.50 metres in width, connecting NH 37 and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, with viaducts on both sides. Additionally, two staircases have been provided on either side of the Bow String Girder for pedestrians to safely cross the railway tracks.
Approval for the closure of Level Crossing Gate No. ST-22 was obtained from the district authority of the Government of Assam, and the gate has been closed effective from 10th July 2024.

This new ROB is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow during peak hours and prevent commuters from trespassing on the railway tracks. It will also enhance operational efficiency, resulting in the seamless movement of both trains and road traffic in the area. The entire population of Sonapur and Morigaon districts stands to benefit from this development.
