Tezpur University launches M. Tech. in Semiconductor Technology

Tezpur University (TU) has initiated enrolments for its Master of Technology (M. Tech.) programme in Semiconductor Technology starting from the academic session 2024-25. This specialised course, administered by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, aims to provide students with advanced competencies in the rapidly evolving semiconductor technology sector.

The M. Tech. in Semiconductor Technology spans two years of intensive, full-time study, blending comprehensive academic modules with practical, hands-on learning opportunities. The curriculum has been meticulously designed to encompass critical facets essential for producing graduates well-equipped to meet industry demands.

Highlighting the significance of semiconductor technology, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of TU, pointed to India’s ‘Semiconductor Mission’ as a strategic endeavour aimed at positioning the nation as a global leader in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and innovation. “Semiconductors form a cornerstone across various sectors such as aerospace, automobiles, communications, clean energy, information technology, and medical devices,” Prof. Singh emphasised, underscoring the broad applicability of the field.

In reference to recent developments, Prof. Singh cited the establishment of a semiconductor unit in Jagiroad as a testament to India’s growing capabilities in this crucial sector. He added that TU’s multidisciplinary programme launch this academic year aligns with the strategic objectives of India’s Semiconductor Mission.
