Guwahati: In a significant move to bolster rail infrastructure in Northeast India and specifically in Assam, an allocation of Rs 10,369 crore was earmarked in the interim Budget 2024-25 for railway infrastructure projects.
Among the key initiatives is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), aimed at revamping 91 stations within the jurisdiction of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) with modern amenities and facilities.
Jagiroad railway station, an important transportation hub serving the Jagiroad town in Marigaon district of Assam, falls under the purview of the Lumding Division of NFR. As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Jagiroad station is poised to undergo a significant transformation with a budget of Rs. 31.18 crore allocated for its redevelopment.
The proposed redevelopment plan entails extending the existing station building with an enhanced facade and introducing state-of-the-art facilities such as air-conditioned and second-class waiting halls to cater to the needs of passengers.
Special provisions including drop-off and pickup porches, ramps for Divyangjan (differently-abled individuals), and modern restroom facilities will also be incorporated.

Additionally, plans include the construction of separate modern toilet blocks for male and female passengers, improved parking facilities, beautification of the circulating area, and providing shelter and resurfacing platforms for enhanced passenger convenience. A separate entry and exit path will be developed to enhance accessibility.
Tenders have already been awarded for various aspects of the redevelopment project, with foundation work for the new station building already underway. Progress is also being made on other passenger amenities such as helping booths, food courts, landscape lighting arrangements, and provision of water booths for Divyangjan.
