Nitin Gadkari sanctions Rs 382 crore highway to connect Majuli, Jorhat

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has sanctioned Rs 382.10 crore for the construction of a 2-lane highway with paved shoulders to connect Majuli and Jorhat. The road will also have a flyover on NH 715 with its approaches and service roads.

The 20.479-kilometer-long road will aid in the development of continuous connectivity between Jorhat and Majuli, which has been lacking such a link until now.

People from Jorhat and Majuli are forced to travel across the Brahmaputra river by ferry during daylight hours, which is not safe, especially during major floods.

The development of approach roads and the Majuli bridge will improve road connectivity, enhance the socio-economic conditions of the local population, and promote tourism.
