Itanagar: An input provided by an anonymous informant to the Narcotics Helpline Cell of the Arunachal Pradesh police has led to the seizure of around 3 kg of cannabis (ganja) from the Gohpur area near here.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) superintendent of police Rohit Rajbir Singh said the Narcotics Helpline Cell on Friday received input from an anonymous individual informing them about a shop selling suspected cannabis at Gohpur.
Singh said the information was accordingly forwarded to Itanagar Capital Region SP Jimmy Chiram for necessary action after which Itanagar police station officer-in-charge inspector Phassang Simi along with his team conducted a raid at the shop.
“During the search, around 3 kg of cannabis was seized from the possession of one Taba Jajo (60) in presence of magistrate Oli Koyu. All the required formalities were maintained during the search and seizure,” Singh said.
The SP said Jajo is a native of Jote in Papum Pare district and a case under section 21 (b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against her.
The Arunachal Police had set up the 24×7 Narcotics Helpline Cell on Monday and this is the first case it has solved within 5 days of its formation.
The helpline has been set up to receive information from across the state(s) regarding transportation, consumption and peddling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Meanwhile, SP Singh has once again appealed to the people to help the police in eradicating the menace of drugs from the state by sharing any information possible.
“A team of officers will be monitoring the helpline 24×7 and the public can send text and voice messages or images and videos to the number. Any information received from the public will be forwarded to the SP concerned for verification and necessary action and the identity of the informant shall be kept a secret,” he said.
