Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Development of North East Region Jyotiraditya Scindia landed at Agartala on Friday to attend the 72nd plenary session of the North East council.
Apart from the union ministers, Chief Ministers of several North Eastern states have also arrived to attend the crucial session starting on Saturday.
The Union Home Minister was accorded a warm welcome at the MBB Airport Agartala in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and other senior leaders. Later in the evening DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reached Agartala.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of DoNER Scindia said that foundation stone of development works to be carried out in the next twelve months will be laid in the one-day NEC plenary session. According to the Union Minister, all the senior leaders and top bureaucrats of the North East region will brainstorm on the socio-economic development of the whole region.
“I am happy that I have got the opportunity to come here for the second time in a very short period of time. The NEC plenary session is not starting tomorrow under the stewardship of the Home Minister. All the governors and Chief Ministers of the North East region will remain present in the meeting. This meeting will ensure development and progress of the entire region,” said Scindia.
According to him, all the initiatives that had been undertaken in the last one year will be reviewed thoroughly and the plans for the next one year would be discussed at length. “Under the stewardship of the Union Home Minister, a banking summit will also be organised where the representatives of the all private and nationalised banks will remain present. In this special summit, issues related to credit linkages and the economic situation of the North East will be discussed. Apart from that, how the robust network of banking has contributed to the NE’s growth story will also come up for discussion,” he added.
