Imphal: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly condemned the death of renowned Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, 54, in New Delhi.
Vikram’s death, following an alleged physical assault outside his residence by a group of men, has sent shockwaves across the nation and intensified calls for justice.
In a post on his Facebook page, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Chongtham Vikram Singh ji, a renowned musician from Manipur, went downstairs to ask some men to lower the noise outside his home. He was beaten to death for it.”
Expressing concern over the safety of Northeast residents in the national capital, Gandhi further wrote, “A father, killed outside his own home, in his own country’s capital. After many such incidents, every Northeast family in Delhi is asking the same question today – are we safe here?”
The Congress leader also questioned the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police over measures being taken to curb what he described as growing lawlessness, especially against people from the Northeast.
While extending his condolences to Vikram’s family, Gandhi called for a swift investigation and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.
At least seven people have been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with Vikram’s death, and further investigation is underway.
