Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday condemned the killing of Chongtham Vikram, a musician and music teacher from Manipur, who died following a brutal assault at his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Khemchand Singh said no one should have to face violence or lose their life while seeking peace in their neighbourhood.
The chief minister said the incident was a painful reminder of the safety concerns faced by people from the Northeast living, studying and working in the national capital. He stressed that such incidents should not be treated as isolated cases.
Khemchand Singh has also written to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, urging a fair and time-bound investigation into the incident under the direct supervision of senior police officials.
He called for all those involved in the crime, including any conspirators, to be apprehended without delay and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The Manipur chief minister also urged the Delhi government to strengthen security measures in localities with significant populations of students and working professionals from Manipur and other northeastern states.
Khemchand Singh extended his condolences to the bereaved family, friends and loved ones of Vikram, as well as to the wider Manipuri and Northeast community.
He said his thoughts were with the bereaved family and community during the time of grief.
