Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday revealed that the claims close to the tune of Rs 200 crore had been settled under State and Centre sponsored universal health coverage schemes.
Speaking at a function organised to mark the sixth year of Prime Minister Jana Arogya Yojana at Pragna Bhavan here in Agartala, Dr Saha said that no one had ever thought that a country like India could roll out a universal health coverage scheme.
“The scheme launched by Prime Minister Modi is acting as a boon for the people coming from underprivileged sections of the society. Under PM-JAY claims worth Rs 195 crore 89 lakh had been settled so far making treatment accessible for as many as 3,43,985 people. The total number of beneficiaries under the PM JAY in Tripura stand at 15 lakh 35 thousand 364,” Dr Saha said.
The Government of Tripura has also launched a similar scheme to cater to the needs of people who are not eligible for the PM-JAY scheme.
“The rest of the population who missed out of the Centre sponsored scheme have been made entitled to similar benefits under Chief Minister Jana Arogya Yojana. This scheme has been launched taking a cue from the centrally sponsored scheme with almost similar benefits. Under this scheme, as many as 12,000 patients accessed cashless treatment benefits. A whopping sum of rupees two crore twenty lakh was spent for claim settlement. The scheme was launched in February, 2024,” the Chief Minister noted.
Dr Saha also appreciated digital transformation brought about in the health sector. “The Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) made health services more accessible. The patients no longer need to carry a baggage of health records as it is available in the fingertips of the health professionals. Appointment, Diagnostic history and the whole health profile is digitally available. In Tripura, more than 21 lakh people have created their ABHA IDs,” the Chief Minister added.
