Imphal: Tipaimukh Assembly Constituency MLA Ngursanglur Sanate and representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) from Pherzawl district met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday and raised issues concerning road connectivity, electricity, banking services and the proposed Pherzawl Autonomous District Council (ADC).
The delegation met the Chief Minister at his official residence and apprised him of the difficulties faced by people in the area.
Pherzawl district, which shares borders with Assam and Mizoram, is predominantly inhabited by the Hmar community.
On road connectivity, the delegation sought the upgradation of the Jiribam-Tipaimukh road, currently a district road, to National Highway status. It said the road would provide an important link between NH-37 and NH-102 and improve connectivity between Jiribam, Tipaimukh and adjoining areas.
The delegation also raised concerns over electricity supply and sought implementation of the proposed power-line connection from Sipuikaun Power Station to Parbung. It also sought extension of power supply to other areas through proposed power-line connections.
The delegation further urged the establishment of a bank in the area, citing difficulties faced by residents due to the absence of banking facilities.
Issues concerning the proposed Pherzawl Autonomous District Council were also raised, with the delegation conveying the concerns and aspirations of the people regarding its establishment.
Responding to the delegation, Khemchand said restoration of peace and stability should be the priority, emphasising that peace is essential for taking forward development and administrative processes.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that the issues raised would be examined and necessary action taken.
The delegation included representatives of ITAC Pherzawl and Jiribam, Hmar Inpui Hmarram Region and Hmar Inpui Vangai Region. Among those present were ITAC Pherzawl and Jiribam secretary Hrlihmingthang Buhril, Hmar Inpui Hmarram Region president Upa Ramdinglien, secretary Zaihmingthang and Hmar Inpui Vangai Region president Rothangkhum.

A peace initiative involving representatives of the Meitei and Hmar communities was held in Jiribam district in April in the presence of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. According to the statement, the initiative has contributed to maintaining peace and harmony between the two communities, who have continued to live together peacefully since then.
