Guwahati: Tripura police on Monday rescued a minor girl who was allegedly abducted from Dhalai district in December last year, tracking her down to Gujarat.
As per a report by the Indian Express, Subdivisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar informed that a complaint regarding the elopement of a minor child from Dhalai district was lodged the father of the girl.
The complainant had alleged that a youth from North Tripura district had kidnapped his minor daughter.
Upon investigation, the police discovered that the accused individual and the minor girl were residing in Gujarat.
A police team, led by woman sub-inspector Pampi Nath, traveled to Ahmedabad, apprehended the man, and safely brought the girl back with the cooperation of the Gujarat police.

The girl was subsequently reunited with her family, and the accused was produced before a local court.
Chief Minister Manik Saha had previously highlighted Tripura’s concerning position in child marriage statistics, noting in August last year that the state ranked high among others in this regard. According to a 2019 international study report, Tripura ranked second in India for child marriages among girls aged 15-19, with a rate of 21.6%, significantly higher than the national average of 11.9%. The report, citing data from the National Family Health Survey, also indicated that over 80% of child marriages in the state occurred in rural areas of three specific districts.
