Shyamal Chowdhury

Agartala: Shyamal Chowdhury, a renowned author and the father of Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, breathed his last in a private hospital here in Agartala on Sunday. He was 81.

Chowdhury was one of the noted authors of his time who played an inspiring role during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Later, his contribution was acknowledged by the Bangladesh government, and he was awarded the Bangladesh Maitri honor.

Chowdhury had been suffering from multiple old age ailments for some time, which led to his demise.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha described his death as an irreparable loss to the state’s literary community. Dr. Saha, who left for Ambassa for organizational meetings, took to his social media handle and wrote:

“I came to know about the demise of Prestigious Maitri Honor awardee and eminent author Shyamal Chowdhury. He also happens to be the father of my cabinet colleague Sushanta Chowdhury. I am deeply saddened by his sudden demise. He was awarded with multiple recognition and honors on different occasions for his achievement.”

Mayor Dipak Majumder and other senior leaders of the party also extended their condolences to the grieving family.
