Agartala: Amidst the ongoing hijab controversy in the BJP ruled state-Karnataka, AICC’s Tripura in-charge Dr Ajoy Kumar on Sunday said looking at old and potbellied workers of the RSS in khaki half pants is an eyesore. “Shouldn’t we ban that, too?”

Kumar said this while addressing a press conference here at Agartala in response to a question on the hijab row, which has been in the headlines for last one week. Watch video here.

“When union minister Nitin Gadkari wears a half pant, that too is obscene and should be banned. When the old men of RSS wear half pants, that is obscene. We should be saved from that also,” Kumar said.

“We don’t tell Nitin Gadkari ji to not wear half pants, but it definitely doesn’t look good on him. What you wear and what you do is a personal choice. Only Congress understands that. We cannot force someone to follow the decisions,” Kumar added.

Meanwhile, BJP defector Sudip Roy Barman, who joined the Congress party, slammed the state government at the first press conference after joining his old party.

“I want to make an appeal to Modiji. He had assured the people of Tripura before the 2018 elections that he would give HIRA to the people of Tripura. You have deceived the people of Tripura with promise. It is not a diamond, it’s a piece of glass. The people of Tripura are confused,” Roy Barman said.

A political reckoning is currently underway in the state over whether the BJP-led government will become a minority. In this regard, Sudip Barman said, “I resigned from the party and submitted my resignation letter to the Speaker. I had said that the government will become a minority. If anyone joins our team, they are welcome. Attempts are being made to give the wrong message to the people by panicking from a quarter,” Roy Barman added.

Without naming the chief minister and health minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Roy Barman said, it is often heard that the average income of the people of the state has gone up.

“When there is no work, no food, then the average income of the people has increased. The wealth of the corrupt and looters has increased. On the basis of their calculations, the increase in the average income of the people is being mentioned. People are being misled. Where most of the people in the state are still living below the poverty line,” Roy Barman added.
