It’s time for another Apple event. Apple’s ‘Peek Performance’ event is scheduled to begin at 11:30 pm IST on March 8. One can watch the event on the Apple website, Apple TV app or YouTube.
This will be the company’s first event for Apple this year and this will also be the biggest and busiest year for product launches. Today’s event could kick off with the launches of a new affordable iPhone, a new iPad, and more than one Mac product.
The highlight of the event though will be the new iPhone SE 3, which is expected to be Apple’s cheapest 5G iPhone yet.
iPhone SE 3 5G
Rumour has it that the third-generation iPhone SE will bring major changes in the performance, both processor’s and camera’s. The iPhone SE 3 may stick to the old design and may still come with thick bezels and huge chins. The design is likely to be the same as that of the second-generation iPhone SE (iPhone SE 2020).
5G is going to be the highlighted feature, but there is no information on whether or not the upcoming iPhone SE will come with better battery life. The existing iPhone SE offers good value for money, but its battery life is not that great.
The iPhone SE 3 5G may come with the A15 Bionic chipset, the same one that powers last year’s flagship iPhone 13 series. That is a big change because the iPhone SE has always been a budget-friendly option in the iPhone lineup that Apple needs to increase its user base.
iPad Air 5
Other than the iPhone SE 3 5G, Apple is likely to release its new iPad at today’s event. The iPad Air was last refreshed in 2020 with an iPad Pro-like design, thin bezels, flat edges, support for Apple Pencil 2, a USB-C port, and a new Touch ID-powered wake button.
Not just the design, Apple is also likely to bring new hardware to the iPad Air lineup. Rumours have said that the upcoming iPad Air may use the latest A15 Bionic processor with support for 5G (limited to only sub-6GHz).
MacBook Air
Apple revamped its MacBook Air in 2020 with the M1 processor. After nearly two years, today, Apple could revamp the MacBook Air again. This time, it may be the successor to the M1 processor that will power the MacBook Air. Apple’s new Silicon processor may be called M2 and it is expected to bring major upgrades in performance, especially regarding graphics.
But do not expect the performance levels of the M2 chip to be as high as that of the M1 Max or M1 Pro chip that you find on the MacBook Pro. Design-wise, the MacBook Air may feature a notched display, just like the MacBook Pro.
Mac Studio
There is a strong rumour that Apple will launch a new category of Mac called the Mac Studio. It will essentially be a mix of Mac mini and Mac Pro aimed at professional work. Reports have suggested there could be three configurations of the Mac Studio, wherein the top-end variant may come with a powerful M1 Max processor. Apple may also launch a new display called the Studio Display with a 27-inch panel. This could be an upgrade to the Pro Display XDR.
Mac mini
Another Mac product that may see an upgrade at today’s event is the Mac mini. Rumours are rife that Apple may introduce a new Mac mini with the latest processors. The upcoming Mac mini could use the M2 processor, but there is also a possibility that a high-end Mac mini with a tweaked version of the M1 Max may arrive at today’s event. This high-end model may be known as the Mac mini Pro. The Mac mini’s design may also see some changes, mostly related to its chassis, which may finally come in a space grey finish.
iMac
Apple’s iMac saw the biggest refresh last year, but this year Apple’s desktop computer may get bigger literally. If rumours are to be believed, the iMac may get a bigger 27-inch model. Besides, Apple could equip this Mac with a newer Apple Silicon processor. But there are some reports suggesting that this 27-inch iMac may come sometime later this year. So if not today, then we will hopefully see this iMac later this year.
Another possibility is that Apple may relaunch the iMac Pro today. The iMac Pro has discontinued a year ago, so there could be a surprise.
