A Malaysian national footballer has been left with second-degree burns following a horrifying acid attack at a shopping mall, as confirmed by a sports official. Faisal Halim, a key player in the national team and a winger for the Selangor Football Club, endured burns on his neck, shoulder, hands, and chest during the assault on Sunday in the Petaling Jaya district near Kuala Lumpur.
Najwan Halimi, a sports official in Selangor state, expressed condemnation and demanded justice, stating, “I strongly condemn this violence and urge the police to bring the perpetrator to justice.”
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, addressing the media on Monday via Astro Awani, disclosed the arrest of a male suspect but refrained from revealing a motive behind the attack.
A photo of Faisal, visibly shaken and bearing burn marks on his body, circulated widely online, drawing attention to the severity of the incident.
This shocking assault comes on the heels of another distressing incident involving a national player. Just three days prior, Akhyar Rashid fell victim to a robbery outside his residence in Terengganu state. The 25-year-old was assaulted with an iron rod by two unidentified assailants, resulting in head and leg injuries necessitating stitches.

Local police chief Azli Noor detailed the robbery, indicating that the suspects fled after robbing Akhyar of his belongings.
Expressing dismay over the consecutive attacks, Football Association of Malaysia president Hamidin Mohamad Amin conveyed his sentiments, saying, “I am upset and sad” about both incidents. He further extended prayers for the swift recovery and return to action of both Akhyar and Faisal.
