Manipur: JTCM serves 48-hour ultimatum to Govt to recover missing head of a Naga man

Imphal: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes’ Council Manipur (JTCM), an apex body of Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme, has served a 48-hour ultimatum to the Government of India and Government of Manipur to recover the missing head of Ajinbou Ringkangmai.

The headless mortal remains of Ajinbou Ringkangmai and Dibambou Ringkangmai, two of the victims recently killed by suspected Kuki armed men at Makui Asang and Tapon Naga villages, was brought to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) morgue for post mortem on Sunday midnight. Ajinbou and three other Liangmai Naga civilians were killed on Saturday during an ambushed allegedly by Kuki armed militants. The other three deceased were identified as Dibambou Ringkangmai, Machungamang Daimai, and Kawjinbou Ringkangmai. Dibambou’s head was also reportedly smashed beyond recognition.

Now with the brutality of killings and absence of justice, the JTCM has refused to proceed with the post-mortem examination of the mortal remains until the missing head of Ajinbou is recovered and handed over to the family for a dignified burial.

The JTCM stated that in an act of unimaginable depravity that defies the very fabric of modern civilisation, the decapitated head of Ajinbou remains missing, held captive by the perpetrators.  We will not allow the state machinery to mutilate the remains further while the head is treated as atrophy by terrorists.

Stating that this heinous crime is an affront to humanity, the Council directly hold responsible to the Government of India and Government of Manipur. The JTCM allaged that the terrorists responsible for the savagery are operating with impunity under the protective umbrella of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed by the GoI. Also, the state government’s continued failure to act makes it complicit in this butchery, it stated.

The JTCM also demanded for the arrest of the perpetrators namely Thangpoi Kipgen, David Hangshing and Dr Sailen Haokip, and ensure that they face the full force of the law.

The JTCM further warned of taking up most stringent measures to secure justice if the concerned authorities fail to comply within 48 hours.

The blood of our innocent villagers will not be washed away by bureaucratic delays and empty condolences. We will not rest, and we will not relent, it added.
