Sikkim's rail revolution: Chairperson inspects SRRP progress

The Sivok-Rangpo New Rail Project (SRRP) is one of the most prestigious ongoing national projects in India. The project aims to connect the currently road-dependent Sikkim state to the railway map of the country.

The Chairperson and CEO of the Railway Board and CEO of N. F. Railway, Jaya Varma Sinha, paid an official visit to the project site on Friday. During the visit, she directed the officials to complete any pending repairs and ensured the smooth functioning of the project. The Railway Board and CEO also inspected the lining works of tunnel No. T – 1 and T – 8 of the project.

Notably, the first underground railway station in the Indian Railways network, the Teesta Bazar Station, is located within the tunnel under the SRRP. This marks a significant milestone in the advancement of railway infrastructure in the country. The Chairperson and CEO also inspected the Testa Bridge and Sivok Station construction work. Later, she had a brief discussion with the officials of the Indian Railway Construction Organization (IRCON) to discuss the entire aspects of the SRRP.

The Chairperson and CEO emphasised the importance of safety and sustainability in tunnel construction. She assured that the project will be completed in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner. The completion of this project will not only improve the transportation system of Sikkim state but also contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
