Citizens Action Party

Gangatok: Citizen Action Party’s working president Dal Bahadur Chauhan resigns from the party citing differences with other leaders.

Chauhan referred to the selection of party president Bharat Basnet as Lok Sabha MP candidate, as one of the reasons for his resignation.

Chauhan in his resignation letter submitted to the CAP president, stated, “Earlier this year on 18 February, Bharat Basnet was selected as the party president. The contention of CAP was that the party president or any executive member would not be contesting the elections.

This was the decision made by the founding president LP Kafley. But on March 21, the parliamentary committee of the party selected Bharat Basnet as the Lok Sabha MP candidate. The contention for Basnet to contest the election was backed by the party’s chief coordinator Ganesh Rai”.

Chauhan contended that the party had gone against its principles to select Basnet as the MP candidate as well as the party president.

He said, “I am not against the selection of Bharat Basnet but the process of his selection is wrong. I feel that the party’s chief minister candidate (Ganesh Rai) is either under pressure or has some personal benefit to go against the decision of the party. I couldn’t support the free will exhibited by the party’s chief coordinator, as it was more of his choice than the choice of the party”.

Chauhan wished the party well on his departure while claiming not to side with any other party just yet.
