Sikkim MP writes to Rajnath Singh over Lachen-Chungthang roads

A former Member of Parliament from North Sikkim, Hishey Lachungpa, has requested the Union Defence Minister to ensure the immediate intervention of the central government to resolve the ongoing connectivity issues in Lachen.

The communication between the two leaders underscores the importance of restoring connectivity from Chungthang to Lachen, a source of significant disruption for both civilian life and military operations in the area.

In a letter to Rajnath Singh, Lachungpa highlighted the severe disruption caused by the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), which struck more than four months ago, isolating the village of Lachen from essential road links. The communication between the two leaders underscores the importance of restoring connectivity from Chungthang to Lachen, which has been the source of significant disruption for both civilian life and military operations in the area.

The letter also raises concerns about the necessity of airlifting a deceased Lachen villager from Siliguri Hospital for burial rites, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the dire need for immediate action. The communication between the two leaders underscores the importance of increasing efficiency and dedication from the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in restoring the National Highway from Chungthang to Lachen.
