Gangtok: In a video widely being circulated across social media, a person is seen being mercilessly beaten by masked men next to Gangtok’s Sadar Police Station.
The video was released by Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) identifying the victim as Rajesh Walling, the party’s East District Convenor. Police personnel were also seen arriving at the spot moments after the masked men dispersed.

As per reports, the incident took place on Monday near Sadar Police Station in Gangtok. Several SDF supporters gathered outside the police station, demanding arrest of the people involved.
SDF members claimed that the attack was carried out by members of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM). Later on Monday, SDF chief Pawan Chamling demanded President’s rule in Sikkim.
Chamling, in his address, stated, “The way Hitler killed over 60 lakh Jews by putting them in gas chambers in Germany. Similarly, Sikkim has turned into a gas chamber. People are not yet being killed that way but they are being mentally killed. Everyone is scared and they are not being able to speak up. People are concerned about their security and protecting the birthrights of the people is getting difficult. Usually, people are scared of goons but in Sikkim people are scared of the government.”

Subsequently, 4 persons were arrested on Monday night by Sikkim Police supposedly for the stone pelting incidents on the convoy of former CM Pawan Kumar Chamling.
The four arrested individuals from SKM party are Sanjeev Gurung, Jigme Bhutia, Tenzing Bhutia and Navin Pradhan.
The arrests were made in three different complaints lodged at Sadar Police Station by Dr Mechung Bhutia, Prakash Gurung, Aron Chettri and Aita Rai. All four have been booked under different sections of IPC and are presently under police custody.
