The North East Media Forum (NEMF) and My Home India (MHI) have announced that the 2nd Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards ceremony will take place on December 11, 2024, coinciding with the birthday of the late veteran journalist Kalyan Barooah. Barooah, who served as the North East correspondent for The Assam Tribune in New Delhi, passed away during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
In a memorial meeting on 1st May 2022, organised by NEMF in collaboration with the Press Club of India, Sunil Deodhar, the founder of My Home India, announced the initiation of these awards. The awards aim to honour Barooah’s significant contribution towards highlighting issues of North East India in the national capital.
The inaugural Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards were held on 11th December 2023 at Constitution Club, New Delhi.
Nominations for the 2nd Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards 2024 are now open. Journalists from the Northeast region working anywhere in India, as well as journalists from any part of the country covering the region, are eligible to apply. This includes both regular and freelance journalists.
The awards will be given in four categories:
- Print/Digital Media

- Videographer
There is no age restriction for applicants. In addition to the above categories, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred upon an individual selected by a jury of eminent media personalities formed by NEMF.
Dear Reader,
Every day, our team at EastMojo travels through rain, rough roads, and remote hills to bring you stories that matter – stories from your town, your people, your Northeast.
We do this because we believe in truthful, independent journalism. No big corporate backing, no government pressure – just honest reporting by local journalists who live and breathe the same air you do.
But to keep doing this work, we need you. Your small contribution helps us pay our reporters fairly, reach places others ignore, and keep asking the tough questions.
If you believe the Northeast deserves its own fearless voice, stand with us.
Support independent journalism. Be a Member.
Thank you,
Karma Paljor
