NFR enhances onboard cleanliness and garbage disposal systems

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a range of new measures aimed at improving passenger comfort and hygiene during train journeys. To ensure a cleaner and more sanitary experience, NFR has implemented onboard housekeeping services (OBHS) across most trains originating within its jurisdiction.

The OBHS programme mandates that train coaches are cleaned at least twice a day, during the journey and upon passenger request. Currently, OBHS is operational on 63 pairs of trains. The system involves automatic SMS notifications to OBHS supervisors, control offices, and passengers upon receiving cleanliness-related information from running trains. This setup facilitates swift registration of passenger complaints and prompt remedial action. The OBHS team is available to address requests for toilet and coach cleaning at any time, leading to improved hygiene and a reduction in cleanliness-related complaints.

In addition to the OBHS, the Clean Train Station (CTS) scheme has been implemented for long-distance trains. This initiative involves thorough cleaning by professional agencies at designated stations during scheduled halts. The CTS team utilises high-pressure jet machines and environmentally friendly, biodegradable cleaning agents to sanitise train interiors, including toilets, doorways, and aisles. Furthermore, garbage generated during journeys is regularly collected at key stations such as Lumding, Guwahati, Alipurduar, New Jalpaiguri, and Katihar to maintain cleanliness.

NFR remains committed to enhancing passenger comfort and requests the cooperation of passengers to help keep train compartments tidy. Passengers are encouraged to use the provided dustbins instead of discarding items on the train floor.
