Imphal: The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi Manipur (LNKR), a Liangmai student body, has condemned the killing of Manipur musician Chongtham Vikram Singh following an alleged assault in New Delhi’s Kilokri.
In a statement, the organisation said Vikram’s death was not only a devastating loss to his family, friends and the music community but also a disturbing reminder of the fear and vulnerability faced by people from Manipur and the wider Northeast living in the national capital.
Vikram was reportedly assaulted after appealing to a group of men to maintain peace in his neighbourhood. The student body said that an appeal for peace allegedly being met with violence resulting in the loss of a human life was “deeply disturbing and unacceptable”.
The LNKR urged the Delhi Police to conduct a swift, impartial and transparent investigation, identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
The organisation said Vikram’s death had sent shockwaves through the Manipuri and Northeast communities, deepening the sense of insecurity among those living away from home in Delhi.
“A life has been lost, a family has been shattered, and a community is mourning. We cannot allow violence to become normalised, nor can the voices of those seeking peace be silenced through fear,” it said.
Offering solidarity to Vikram’s family, fellow musicians and the wider Northeast community, the LNKR said justice for him was a demand for accountability, dignity and safety for people from the region living in the national capital.
