How India’s progress towards green buildings can be hastened

India has been ranked 39th among 119 countries in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024, according to the latest report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF). In the previous 2021 index, India was ranked 54th; however, following a revision in the WEF’s methodology, India’s 2021 rank was adjusted to 38th.

The Ministry of Tourism is actively working to enhance the country’s tourism infrastructure through several initiatives. Under schemes such as ‘Swadesh Darshan,’ the ‘National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD),’ and the ‘Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development,’ financial assistance is provided to state governments, union territory administrations, and central agencies for developing tourism-related infrastructure and facilities at various destinations.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched India’s official portal for Medical Value Travel (MVT), called the Advantage Healthcare India portal. This “One-Stop” platform facilitates information for international patients seeking medical or wellness services in India. The portal, accessible at www.healinindia.gov.in, aims to streamline access to healthcare services for overseas visitors.

The details of the tourism projects sanctioned under these schemes were provided in a written reply by the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, during a session of the Rajya Sabha.
