Agartala: An Indian citizen, who legally traveled to Bangladesh, was abducted by a group of miscreants, according to reports. The abductors demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh from the victim’s wife. However, Bangladesh police rescued the man, and discussions are underway to secure his return through talks between border forces.
The victim, identified as Chailafru Mog (32), a resident of Belonia in South Tripura district, crossed into Bangladesh on September 13 through the Muhurighat Land Custom Station. He was expected to return by September 18, but when he failed to arrive, his wife, Swapna Mog, received a ransom call from a Bangladeshi number demanding Rs 1 lakh for his release.
Worried about her husband, Swapna approached the local police for help, but they allegedly didn’t take the matter seriously. Left with no other option, she sought assistance from the local BSF authorities.
Upon receiving the complaint, the BSF promptly reached out to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and held a flag meeting with their BGB counterparts at Majumdarhat.
According to an official statement from the BSF, the BGB informed them during the meeting that the abducted Indian citizen had been rescued and was in the custody of Bangladesh police.
“The BSF commander raised concerns over the abduction of an Indian citizen on Bangladeshi soil. In response, the BGB commander revealed that one suspect had been arrested and that a search operation was ongoing to capture the remaining culprits. The BGB assured us that, following the necessary procedures, Chailafru Mog, currently in the custody of Bangladesh Police in Chittagong, will be handed over to the BSF,” the BSF statement read.
Swapna Mog expressed her gratitude to the BSF for their swift action, stating, “I am thankful for their quick response and hopeful for my husband’s safe return.”
