The second phase of voting is underway for the Bodoland Territorial Council elections. The voting process began at 07.30 am in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of the BTC and will end by 04.30 pm.
Till 12:00 pm, 38 per cent votes had been cast.
A total of 111 candidates for 19 constituencies across Kokrajhar and Chirang wait as their fate will be sealed by over 10 lakh voters in the districts. 77 candidates are contesting from Kokrajhar, while 34 candidates are from Chirang.
All polling stations are under heavy video surveillance. An election official has said, “We are confident and hopeful that the second phase of elections will also pass off peacefully just like Phase 1 of polling.”
The BTC election was scheduled for the 4th of April but was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase polling for the BTC took place on December 7 and counting for both phases will be held on December 12.
