Indian Railways has launched a large-scale recruitment drive, inviting applications to fill a substantial number of vacancies across the organisation. With over 2 crore aspirants applying, the initiative reflects the immense interest in railway employment opportunities. Eligible candidates are required to participate in Computer-Based Tests (CBTs), which are being conducted in cities nationwide. The first phase of these tests commenced on 25th November 2024 and is scheduled to conclude on 29th December 2024, with subsequent phases set to begin in March 2025.
To ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process, Indian Railways has collaborated closely with state governments. Senior state officials have been designated as nodal officers to work with the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) to oversee the smooth execution of the examinations. To verify the authenticity of applicants, Aadhaar-based identification checks have been implemented for all eligible candidates.
The scale of this recruitment exercise underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to addressing employment needs. Over the past decade, from 2014 to 2024, the organisation has successfully recruited approximately 5 lakh employees, marking a 25% increase compared to the 4 lakh recruitments during the preceding decade (2004-2014).

For the first time in its history, Indian Railways has also introduced an employment calendar, ensuring timely notifications of vacancies and examination dates for positions such as Assistant Loco Pilots, RPF/Sub-Inspectors, Technicians, and Junior Engineers. Notably, the CBTs for Assistant Loco Pilots were conducted seamlessly over five days nationwide.
Indian Railways has issued a cautionary message to candidates, urging them to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers and to avoid interactions with brokers or middlemen.
