The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its ticket-checking operations to ensure a comfortable and hassle-free journey for all legitimate passengers. These special drives, aimed at curbing ticketless and irregular travel, have proven effective, generating significant revenue and discouraging such activities that inconvenience genuine travellers.
From April 1, 2024, to May 19, 2024, NFR’s rigorous ticket-checking initiatives resulted in the recovery of over Rs. 10.65 crores from ticketless travellers. This ongoing effort reflects the railway’s commitment to maintaining a fair travel environment.
During the period from April 2023 to March 2024, NFR detected 793,170 cases of ticketless or irregular travel, leading to the collection of over Rs. 66.27 crore in fares and penalties from offenders. In comparison, the previous fiscal year of 2022-2023 saw Rs. 62.98 crore collected from 778,808 detected cases. This indicates a 5.23% increase in earnings from penalties and fares in the last fiscal year, with 14,362 more cases detected.
Travelling without a proper ticket or beyond the authorized distance can result in excess charges and fares. Passengers who fail or refuse to pay these charges on demand are considered in default and will be prosecuted under relevant sections of The Railways Act, 1989.

NFR urges the public to travel with valid tickets and carry proper identification to avoid inconvenience. Passengers can now purchase unreserved tickets nationwide using the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application, available on both Android and Apple app stores.
The NFR remains dedicated to providing better services and a seamless travel experience for all its passengers by continuously monitoring and acting against ticketless travel.
