The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NFR has now partnered with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to trace stolen and missing mobile phones from trains and railway premises.
The new initiative will help the RPF track the missing phones and also alert the concerned authorities. This can be done by using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal of DoT.
As a first step, the RPF of NFR has been given access to the CEIR portal of Assam state as a pilot project.
It is hoped that through this, the RPF will be able to effectively detect the theft of mobile phones from trains and railway premises across the state.

According to sources, the RPF of NFR has so far uploaded the details of 36 missing and stolen mobile phones in the CEIR portal. In 15 of these cases, the location of the mobile phones has been traced and seven of them have been recovered.
The RPF of NFR is hopeful that this new initiative will strengthen the efforts of the railway security force and make it easier to recover missing and stolen mobile phones.
