Imphal: Against the backdrop of ongoing tensions in Manipur, delegates from Zo United are currently in New Delhi to engage with officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Zo United serves as a coordinating body encompassing all apex organizations of the Kuki-Zo people, including Kuki Inpi Manipur, Zomi Council, ITLF, COTU, HTC, and all tribe councils.
The Zo United representatives, who arrived in Delhi from Lengpui airport in Aizawl on Monday evening, are scheduled to meet MHA officials, including interlocutor AK Mishra, on Wednesday. Their aim is to address the ethnic conflict crisis that erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson for the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, a Kuki group based in Churachandpur district, stated, “A total of nine representatives of Zo United will be meeting MHA officials to expedite our demand for a political solution. We have also sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and are awaiting confirmation.”
Since the outbreak of ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May of the previous year, the Kuki-Zo people have been advocating for separate administration in the form of a Union Territory with legislators. This demand for autonomy from the Manipur government has received support from 10 legislators of the Kuki-Zo community.

On Saturday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital. Singh mentioned that the Government of India is poised to make crucial decisions in the interest of the people of Manipur. During his visit, the chief minister also met with senior officials from the MHA to discuss strategic measures aimed at fostering peace in the state.
