Kohima: A major landslide struck National Highway 702A at New Colony in Zunheboto on Wednesday, disrupting vehicular movement and raising concerns over the safety of residents and structures in the affected area.
According to official reports, three houses located near the landslide site had been evacuated beforehand as a precautionary measure. The houses were subsequently completely damaged by the landslide.
The timely evacuation helped avert any loss of life or injuries. However, another building in the vicinity has reportedly developed visible cracks following the incident, raising concerns about its structural stability and the possibility of further damage.
The landslide brought a substantial amount of earth and debris onto the highway, affecting normal vehicular movement along the NH-702A stretch. The incident has also heightened concerns among residents living close to the affected area amid the possibility of further soil movement.
Authorities and concerned departments are assessing the situation and taking measures to ensure public safety and restore safe vehicular movement along the highway.
