Kohima: In light of an ongoing eviction drive against illegal immigrants being carried out by the Government of Assam, the Nagaland government has stepped up measures in border districts to prevent any influx of displaced persons.
After evictions of suspected Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam’s Dhubri and Goalpara districts, the Deputy Commissioners of Dimapur and Chümoukedima have issued directives to all village councils, wards, and colonies to remain vigilant against any possible influx of displaced individuals.
Dimapur DC Tinojongshi Chang has issued an order directing residents to remain vigilant and alert for any possible influx of displaced individuals.
The order, issued pursuant to Commissioner of Nagaland’s Advisory No. C/NL/PO-ONLINE/2023-55 dated July 21, 2025, warned of the risk of illegal immigrants attempting to cross into Nagaland due to the eviction operations in neighbouring Assam.
The DC has instructed that any unusual movement or migration be immediately reported to the District Administration and Police authorities.
Similarly, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima, has also issued a detailed advisory to heighten vigilance and ensure coordinated action to prevent the possible influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland.
The advisory, issued by Deputy Commissioner Polan John highlighted growing concerns over the entry and movement of illegal immigrants into the State amidst the eviction drives. It stresses the importance of maintaining public order and safeguarding the demographic integrity of Nagaland.
All Administrative Officers of the Sub-divisions—Medziphema, Dhansiripar, and Seithekema—along with the Executive Officers of the Chümoukedima and Medziphema Town Councils, have been instructed to remain constantly vigilant. They have been directed to take immediate and necessary steps to prevent any potential influx of illegal immigrants within their respective jurisdictions.
All Village Councils and Town Councils across the district have been asked to stay alert to the prevailing situation and to actively report any suspicious movement or illegal entry of individuals or groups into the district.
