The National Socialist Council of Nagalim/Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In a statement released on 27 December 2024, the organisation highlighted Singh’s approach to addressing the Naga political issue during his tenure.
The NSCN/GPRN recalled Singh’s remarks during a meeting with its delegation in New Delhi on 7 December 2004, where he assured mutual efforts toward a solution. Singh had emphasised the importance of achieving an honourable resolution through mutual understanding, stating, “We are equally keen to work out a mutually acceptable honourable solution. We will explore jointly every possible way to bring a solution acceptable to both parties.”
During his tenure, Singh authorised senior ministers to engage in talks with the NSCN representatives. On 9 February 2005, he reaffirmed his commitment by suggesting that the relationship framework between India and Nagalim should be collaboratively developed.

In a one-on-one discussion with Thuingaleng Muivah, NSCN’s Chief Negotiator, on 24 June 2005, Singh assured seriousness and sincerity in addressing the Naga political issue. He urged patience and emphasised that steps were being taken positively, acknowledging the gravity of the Naga concerns.
The NSCN/GPRN described Singh as bold and sincere in his approach, crediting him with efforts that have left a significant legacy in Indo-Naga relations.
The statement expressed the organisation’s heartfelt condolences to Singh’s family and friends, recognising his role in pursuing peaceful solutions to complex political issues. The NSCN/GPRN noted that his contributions would be remembered in the historical context of Indo-Naga relations.
