Kohima: The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has strongly condemned the recent alleged criminal misconduct by Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti of Nagaland University’s Zoology Department and demanded immediate action, including his termination.
In a letter to the President of India, who serves as the visitor of the university, through the Governor of Nagaland, the Chief Rector, the NMA detailed allegations of sexual threats and abuse involving students and a female assistant professor.
The allegations, backed by statements from the NU Scholars, Nagaland Students’ Federation (NSF), NU Teachers’ Association (NUTA), and NU Non-Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA), were described as predatory actions that have spanned years.
The NMA expressed dismay over the alleged silence of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, terming it “highly questionable” and emphasising that such behavior tarnishes the reputation of the institution.
“The silence of the Vice Chancellor on this latest violence is highly questionable. No teacher can exist in the sanctity of an academic institution making students and colleagues his prey,” NMA President Vilanuo Angela Yhome and Joint Secretary Vitono Haralu said in the letter.
They urged the President to immediately terminate the Sarat Chandra Yenisetti from the service of the Nagaland University for the safety of students and teachers and the prestige of this Central University in the State of Nagaland.
“The Naga Mothers are confident that Your Excellency will protect and uphold the security of students and women in the University and issue directives for the immediate termination of his appointment in the Nagaland University,” they added.
