Eastern Nagaland reaffirms election boycott over frontier territory demand

Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has reaffirmed their decision to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the state amid their demand for a frontier territory.

During a crucial meeting on Thursday held at CKS Hall in Tuensang, the leaders of the region reaffirmed their adherence to the Chenmoho Resolution of February 23, 2024.

The ENPO areas, covering six districts, have been reeling under a state of ‘public emergency’ in protest against the non-fulfillment of their demands.

This resolution dictates the abstention from participating in any Central and State elections by citizens of Eastern Nagaland. The resolution stems from perceived governmental inaction regarding the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT), an offer allegedly promised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

As per reports, the decision was collective and reflective of the community’s unified stance. Despite differences and “communication gaps” with the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union (ENLU), the meeting arrived at an understanding and concluded successfully.
