Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) has alleged that the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government is reluctant to pursue a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the sale of Lengpui land to the Indian Air Force (IAF), despite issuing a formal consent notification.
Interacting with media persons, the MNF said that although the state government issued a notification on February 23, 2026, granting consent to the CBI to investigate the matter, no concrete follow-up action has been taken, indicating a lack of intent to carry out a genuine probe.
The party stated that it had submitted a formal complaint on February 5, 2026, to the Chief Vigilance Officer and Chief Secretary, seeking a CBI inquiry into the land transaction, with a copy also sent to the Director General of Police.
On the same day, the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee also reportedly filed an FIR with the CBI on the issue.
The MNF further noted that the Mizoram Legislative Assembly had adopted a resolution moved by MLA Dr Lalthangliana, calling for a CBI investigation into alleged legal violations and corruption in the land deal involving the IAF.
However, the party claimed that despite these developments, the government has not forwarded a detailed request or supporting documents to the CBI.
It said responses obtained through RTI queries indicate that the consent notification remains the only communication sent so far, raising doubts about the government’s seriousness.
The MNF also alleged a lack of transparency, stating that even as complainants, it was not provided copies of key documents. It added that requests made to the Vigilance Department for details of communication with the CBI have not been fulfilled.
Accusing the government of attempting to mislead the public, the party said that issuing consent alone is insufficient to initiate a proper investigation and must be followed by a formal reference to the CBI.
The MNF said it would continue to press for a thorough probe in line with the Assembly resolution and ensure that the matter is fully investigated.
The party also raised concerns over alleged interference by individuals linked to the ruling party in a separate land acquisition process in Sairang Kolabari, where land is being considered for defence purposes. It cited RTI responses indicating ongoing surveys under the Ministry of Defence, while claiming that certain documents related to the matter were withheld on grounds of national security.
