Aizawl: The Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government, accusing it of neglecting the state’s lifeline highway, NH-306, and instead focusing on appearances and celebrations while the public suffers.
In a statement issued on Monday, the MPYCC criticised the ZPM government for failing to address the dilapidated condition of NH-306, particularly the stretch from Buichali to Kawnpui. The youth wing stated that despite earlier promises to prioritise Mizoram’s critical road infrastructure, the government has failed to deliver on its commitment.
“The ruling ZPM said they would prioritise the lifeline of Mizoram, the highways. But what we see instead is a government more concerned with their looks and merry-making,” the Congress youth said.
The MPYCC particularly questioned the decision by the ZPM Legislature Party to appoint a minister and an MLA to monitor the highway on a daily basis. While acknowledging that daily vigilance might appear proactive, they claimed the move exposes a deeper issue within the government.
“It appears as if the ZPM government has no confidence in its own PWD Minister. Appointing others to oversee the road situation every day is akin to passing a no-confidence motion against their own minister, which is shameful,” the MPYC stated.
The Congress youth wing went on to allege that this reflects internal instability and poor coordination within the ZPM leadership. “There are serious internal issues plaguing the ruling party. Their new system of governance is not only dysfunctional but dangerous,” the statement said.
According to the MPYCC, the Sports Minister and the Social Welfare Minister, among others, are now preoccupied with overseeing the damaged road instead of focusing on their own departments.
