Aizawl: Mizoram’s Tourism Department has been honoured with the Emerging Eco & Nature Retreat Award at the 10th International Tourism Conclave & Travel Awards (ITCTA), held at Le Meridien, New Delhi.

The recognition highlights Mizoram’s rising profile as a sustainable and nature-centric travel destination. Known for its lush landscapes, rich biodiversity, and commitment to eco-tourism, the state continues to attract environmentally conscious travellers seeking offbeat and immersive experiences.
Organised annually, the ITCTA celebrates excellence in the Indian travel and tourism sector. The award acknowledges Mizoram’s initiatives to promote green practices and responsible tourism while preserving the state’s natural heritage.
The Tourism Department in Mizoram was established on April 24, 1987, following the bifurcation of the former Information, Public Relations and Tourism Department (IPR&T). It was created as the nodal agency for the development and promotion of tourism in the state. Since its inception, the department has worked consistently to harness Mizoram’s tourism potential through the development of infrastructure, promotion of rural tourism, human resource development, and the celebration of local fairs and festivals.
Currently headquartered in Aizawl, the department does not have branch offices in other districts. Its vision is “to develop tourism in a sustainable and integrated manner so as to make Mizoram a major national and international tourism destination, catalyzing growth and economic development.”
