Aizawl: In a resolute effort to combat the escalating menace of drug trafficking, the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee convened a pivotal meeting in Champhai District, Mizoram.
Led by the Champhai DC, the committee shared the imperative of collective action in the battle against drugs, emphasizing its significance not only for Mizoram but for the entirety of India.
SP Champhai Vineet Kumar lauded the unwavering dedication of enforcement agencies, particularly commending the Assam Rifles Special Operation for their proactive measures in seizing illicit narcotics.
Providing alarming statistics, the Champhai District Police, under the ND&PS Act, 1985, reported on the number of drug-related cases from February to April 2024. A total of 53 cases were registered, resulting in the apprehension of 66 individuals, including 11 foreigners. Seizures included 20.676 kg of heroin valued at Rs. 6,20,28,630/-, 10.385 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine worth Rs. 31,15,50,000/-, 31.661 kg of Methamphetamine amounting to Rs. 4,01,97,300/-, and 22.5 kg of Ganja valued at Rs. 25,000/-.
Simultaneously, the Excise & Narcotics Department Champhai recorded 13 cases, leading to the arrest of 14 individuals, with 6 being foreigners. Seizures by the department comprised 3.2 kg of heroin valued at Rs. 96,00,000 and 61.327 kg of Methamphetamine worth Rs. 7,97,25,10.

The proactive stance of security forces was evident as Assam Rifles units stationed at COB Champhai and Zokhawthar seized 19.879 kg of heroin and 41.318 kg of Methamphetamine during the same period.
Additionally, the Customs Preventive Force intercepted 1300 grams of heroin, further illustrating the multi-agency effort to curb drug trafficking.
