Shillong: Power Minister Abu Tahet Mondal assured on Monday that despite challenges, the department has yet to implement any load-shedding measures. Mondal expressed optimism that the region can avoid power disruptions this year with timely and sufficient rainfall.
“We have not resorted to load shedding thus far, and our aim is to maintain this status quo,” Mondal stated. He highlighted the successful completion of board exams without interruptions and ensuring uninterrupted power during elections as achievements of the department.
Acknowledging the reliance on hydel power which is contingent upon rainfall, Mondal emphasised the importance of timely rains for uninterrupted power supply. He echoed the chief minister’s directive of providing continuous power and expressed hope in fulfilling this mandate.
Addressing power outages in certain areas, Mondal delineated between load shedding, which hasn’t commenced, and shutdowns due to various reasons like lightning, equipment failures, and tree interference with power lines.
Mondal urged collaboration to mitigate power disruptions, stressing the department’s commitment to minimizing load shedding. Reflecting on last year’s challenges, he outlined proactive measures taken this year to balance supply and demand effectively.
