Shillong: Amid widespread public outrage following the killing of three Assam residents in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills District, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has condemned the brutal act of violence.
In a statement released by the Chief Minister, Sangma expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident that occurred in the Rongmil area of East Garo Hills on April 17.
The discovery of three charred bodies, residents of Assam, buried amidst the ashes of their burnt vehicle, has shocked both communities and serves as a stark reminder of the brutality that can afflict the communities, the CM said.
Sangma emphasised that such reprehensible actions have no place in society and represent a grave violation of our shared humanity. He called for unity and compassion in the face of this senseless tragedy, urging individuals and communities to come together to offer support and solace to those affected.
Furthermore, Sangma appealed to citizens of both Assam and Meghalaya to refrain from resorting to vigilante justice or any form of retaliation. He urged people to resist the seeds of discord and animosity, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and harmony.
The Chief Minister cautioned against the exploitation of the tragedy for personal agendas, whether through communal incitement or the spread of misinformation. He called on the public to remain vigilant and to reject attempts to sow division.
