Imphal: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (WC-JTCM) has opposed Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s proposed visit to the families of six slain Naga men and other displaced families currently staying at the Makhan Relief Camp in Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, the council said it did not approve the proposed visit, citing the government’s failure to deliver justice to the six Naga men who were allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13 and whose dismembered remains were recovered on June 10.
“Today marks 84 days since the abduction and brutal killing of our six Liangmai Naga brothers at Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. Their mortal remains still remain unclaimed at the JNIMS morgue in Imphal,” the JTCM said.
The council alleged that no arrests have been made in connection with the case and that the investigation remains incomplete. It said justice has yet to be delivered to the victims and their families.
Against this backdrop, the JTCM said no official programme or public relations exercise should be conducted in Naga areas while the killings remain unresolved.
“It is not merely inappropriate, but an insult to the Naga people and to the dead,” the statement said.
The council demanded that the government first deliver justice to the bereaved families before undertaking any visits, whether humanitarian or political in nature.
“Justice first. Then everything else,” it said.
Until its demands are met, the JTCM appealed to all Naga people, civil society organisations and community leaders to abstain from participating in the proposed visit in any capacity. It also urged the community to boycott official engagements that, it said, bypass the collective will of the Naga people.
The council further called upon Naga leaders, village authorities and civil society organisations to refrain from meeting government officials for development projects, relief assistance or political dialogue until the interests of all Naga communities are duly consulted and represented.
It also cautioned that no individual or group should claim to speak on behalf of the Nagas without a collective mandate.
“Let it be known that our silence is not for sale, and our patience is not without limit,” the statement added.
