Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday chaired a high-level security meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal following the killing of four civilians along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district.
The meeting reviewed the security situation in the wake of the “unfortunate” incident in which four civilians were allegedly gunned down. The state government condemned the killings in the strongest terms and directed security officials to identify, apprehend and take action against those responsible.
The meeting came days after the chief minister, on August 12, issued a 15-day ultimatum to individuals possessing illegal arms and weapons to surrender them.
The security meeting also decided to take stringent action against anyone, irrespective of community, found in possession of illegal firearms or other weapons.
The government further resolved to act against cadres of armed groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement or those engaged in peace talks with the government if they are found carrying weapons outside their designated camps.

The chief minister instructed the security agencies to deal firmly with violations and maintain strict enforcement of the government’s directives.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Mukesh Singh, the Joint Secretary (Northeast) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, ADGP (Intelligence/Law and Order), State Home Commissioner, IG CRPF, IG Assam Rifles (East), IG Assam Rifles (South), Deputy GOC of the 57 Mountain Division, Joint Director of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB), and senior officers of the BSF, SSB and other security agencies.
