Imphal: Troops of the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army rescued a 21-year-old man after he accidentally fell into a deep roadside ditch in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Saturday evening.
The rescued youth, identified as Fakchao, is a resident of Leikhong village in Imphal East, an official said.
According to an official statement, the Army received information about the incident at around 7:45 pm and launched a rescue operation within minutes. On reaching the site, the troops secured the area, carried out a systematic search and used anchored ropes to safely extricate the youth from the ditch. The rescue operation was completed by around 8 pm.
“The prompt action, well within 20 minutes of receiving information, reflects the high state of operational readiness of the troops and the Indian Army’s abiding commitment to the safety and welfare of the local populace,” the statement said.
Residents of Leikhong village expressed their gratitude to the Red Shield Division for the timely intervention, which they said helped avert a possible tragedy.
The Army said such humanitarian assistance operations continue to strengthen trust and goodwill between the Indian Army and the people of Manipur, reaffirming its commitment to public service and readiness to respond to emergencies at all hours.
