Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday attended the distribution programme of welfare schemes for beneficiaries, implemented by the Social Welfare Department, Manipur. The programme, held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal, involved benefits worth Rs 91.66 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Khemchand Singh said that over the past three years, the State has gone through difficult times that have disrupted the lives of its people. The prolonged crisis has caused significant financial and mental hardships to the common people.
He further stated that to address the financial difficulties faced by the people, the Government has taken up various initiatives to provide assistance. This has been done under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the guidance of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Expressing confidence, Khemchand Singh hoped that the distribution of these benefits would provide some relief to the people.
Speaking on the development of the State, the Chief Minister said that peace and hard work are necessary. He urged people from all communities living in the State to consider themselves as Manipuris and to contribute towards making Manipur a better State.
Delivering the presidential speech, Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Secretary, said that in recent years many families in the State have faced great hardship. Women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have faced the greatest burden.
He further said that it is the shared responsibility of all to ensure they receive the care, protection, support, and opportunities they deserve. He added that today’s event reflects the Government’s strong commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and the welfare of every section of society.
During the programme, Khemchand Singh formally launched the Integrated Monthly Pension Processing System.

It may be mentioned that benefits were distributed to nearly 2,40,758 beneficiaries during the programme. The total fund outlay was Rs 91,66,50,772. The beneficiaries received assistance under 17 different schemes of the Social Welfare Department.
The programme was attended by Khuraijam Loken Singh, Minister (Arts & Culture and Tourism); Member of Legislative Assembly (MLAs); Haobam Rosita, Commissioner (Social Welfare); senior officials of the department; staff; beneficiaries and students among others.
