mphal: IPS officer Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh, Commandant of the 6th Indian Reserve Battalion and Superintendent of Police, Special Commando Unit, Manipur, has been conferred the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation 2026.
The prestigious honour was officially announced on January 15, 2026, on the occasion of Army Day 2026, in recognition of his exemplary service, outstanding leadership, and operational excellence in the state police and commando units.
Dr Ibomcha Singh was among the 747 personnel and officers from various forces and services—including the Assam Rifles, Armoured Corps, Infantry, Army Aviation Corps, Intelligence Corps, Border Security Force, Military Nursing Service, Territorial Army, National Cadet Corps, Military Engineering Service, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, police forces, and civilians—who received the commendation on the occasion.
Congratulating the officer, the Manipur government, in a post on its official Facebook page, stated, “This prestigious recognition reflects his exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment, and outstanding service to national security.”

Dr Ibomcha Singh initially joined the Manipur Police Service (MPS) and was among the six Manipur police officers inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS) in December 2025, following the Union Public Service Commission’s approval of the IPS Select List for 2024.
During his career, he has received several other notable honours, including the Police Medal for Gallantry (2009), the Manipur DGP Commendation and Disc, and the Chief Minister’s Trophy for the Anti-Drug Campaign in 2020.
