Imphal: Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday appealed for peace in the state amid a sudden rise in violence, emphasizing that violence is not a solution to any problem.
In a statement, Governor Acharya stressed that peace and public cooperation are essential for societal development.
“Manipur, the ‘land of jewels,’ is not an exception. For a long time, this state has played a significant role in India’s all-around development. However, in recent months, the state has been in turmoil,” the Governor said.
He acknowledged that some unfortunate incidents have severely impacted the Central and State governments’ dedicated efforts to restore peace and normalcy.
Expressing deep concern over the surge in violence, Governor Acharya reiterated that violence cannot solve any issues. He urged everyone to contribute and work together to find solutions to the ongoing problems.
In his efforts to address the situation, the Governor has been in constant communication with public leaders, students, and citizens, seeking their cooperation. Dedicated efforts are being made in this regard, the statement added.
In light of the current situation, Governor Acharya further appealed to all sections of society, including student organizations and public leaders, to unite in establishing peace and helping Manipur achieve new heights of growth and development.
The Manipur government also imposed a five-day internet ban starting from 3 PM on September 10, citing concerns that social media could be used by anti-social elements to spread hate speech and provoke further violence. The suspension affects internet, mobile data, Lease Lines, VSATs, broadband, and VPN services.
