Imphal: Amid escalating violence in conflict-ridden Manipur, the state police are ramping up efforts to maintain security by closely monitoring the situation and deploying additional resources, including anti-drone systems, to counter the increasing threat from rogue drones, a senior police official informed.
According to the official, the police are analysing recent attacks and fortifying their manpower with advanced weaponry. The law enforcement agency has also initiated measures to deploy anti-drone systems to repel potential aerial threats.
The state police are closely monitoring ongoing investigations and reviewing crimes committed under scheduled acts to facilitate the transfer of sensitive cases to central agencies.
Efforts to monitor sensitive areas have intensified, with additional forces deployed in vulnerable locations across the state. Combing operations in both the hill and valley areas are being conducted to prevent long-range rocket attacks. Army helicopters have been mobilized to patrol and surveil sensitive regions, the official added.
On Saturday, combined security forces conducted combing operations in the general area of Loiching range and in the general area between Loibol Khullen and Tingkai Khullen bordering Bishnpur and Kangpokpi district, leading to the recovering of huge quantity of arms and ammunitions as well as war like stores. The recovered weapons include nine arms, 21 ammunitions, 21 explosive/grenades and one wireless set.
Police further informed that during the wee hours, suspected Kuki militants launched an attack at Nungchappi village under Jiribam district. One senior citizen identified as Yurembam Kulendra Singha, 63, was killed.
The violence continued in Rasidpur village, where village volunteers confronted the armed miscreants. This led to the death of Baspatimayum Lakhi Kumar Sharma (41) from Dibong Khunou, according to the police.

Following the attack, a police team led by the Jiribam Superintendent of Police (SP) rushed to the scene. However, the team came under attack by suspected militants, prompting a retaliation by the police to bring the situation under control. During a subsequent search of the area, the bodies of three suspected miscreants were recovered.
Meanwhile, on Friday evening, miscreants attempted to loot arms from three separate locations: the 7th Manipur Rifles (MR) in Khabeisoi, and the 2nd MR in Imphal. Security forces at these locations successfully dispersed the mobs by firing tear gas and blank rounds. In the ensuing clashes, two police personnel—Inspector Kh Henery and Constable Isaac Gangmei—were injured when miscreants fired on the reinforcement team. Both officers were evacuated to Shija Hospital for treatment.
