Manipur: Kuki-Zo volunteer killed in gunfight laid to rest in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi: A Kuki-Zo volunteer who was killed in a fresh gunfight along the border between Kangpokpi and Imphal West was laid to rest at Martyr’s cemetery at Phaijang village on Sunday.

Sunday’s fresh gunfight between village volunteers of two warring communities Bethel village in the Koubru mountain range has killed at least one person and left three others injured. The deceased was identified as Lammang Kipgen, a village volunteer from Kangpokpi district.

A burial programme for the deceased identified as Lammang Kipgen, a village volunteer from Kangpokpi district, was organised by Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU).

According to COTU spokesperson Ng Lun Kipgen, the village volunteer “gave his life for their tomorrow.”

“We want to know why the Center government is hell-bent on withdrawing all the central security forces from the fringe areas when there have been relentless attacks from the Majoritarian community,” said Kipgen.

He further alleged that had the central forces not been withdrawn from the area, they would not have lost a life.

“Who will be responsible for all these incidents? Power comes with responsibilities and accountability, without which it is a Banana republic,” he added.
